Uplifting surgery for your shoulder
Get back to doing the things you love the most
Jane, a 75-year-old Florida resident in The Villages, leads an active life. She swims two mornings a week, teaches deep-water exercise classes, plays golf and helps care for her husband, Rick, who has had several strokes.
So, when a combination of arthritis and damaged tendons caused pain and limited movement in her right shoulder last year, Jane really felt restricted. Jane saw a doctor who recommended rotator cuff surgery. The surgery was painful and despite months of physical therapy, her shoulder was still painful, and weak. She couldn’t sleep at night. Even steroid injections weren’t helping.
"I couldn't raise my arm above my shoulder - it was just painful all the time," she says. "One of my favorite things to do is painting, and I couldn't do that. I couldn't swim, and it just made my life very difficult.
After doing some research, Jane learned about a procedure performed by Dr. Michael Messieh called reverse shoulder replacement. Jane made an appointment with Dr. Messieh at his Villages-Clermont offices after a CT scan was performed. She learned that Dr. Michael Messieh uses personalized shoulder instruments based on CT scan models for each patient to provide the best results. Jane now can get back to living her life without pain and get back to doing the things she loves the most.
